Alessandro Sciamarelli (born in 1970) holds the position of Director of Economic and Market Analysis at the European Steel Association (EUROFER) based in Brussels, where he carries out economic research and analysis linked to the steel sector. Prior to joining EUROFER, he held for over ten years equivalent positions at other Brussels-based European associations (namely in the mortgage lending sector and the cement sector) and, before that, he worked for the Economic Studies Office of a leading cement and construction group in Rome and for the European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA) in Maastricht. He holds a PhD in Economics (1999) and a degree in political science (1995) from the University of Pisa, Italy.

Alok Sahay

Mr. Alok Sahay, Executive Director, SAIL has 37 years of varied experience in the steel industry.

In addition to his responsibilities in SAIL, Mr. Sahay serves on the Board of Directors of several companies and is the Chairman of M/s SAIL-RITES Bengal Wagon Industry Limited.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics (Honors) and his experience includes training at British Steel and tenure as visiting fellow at Queen Elizabeth House, Oxford University.

He has held positions handling marketing and operations in SAIL’s International trade division as well as in domestic markets all over the country. Record exports by SAIL during his tenure remained unsurpassed for over 15 years.

He developed and headed the Defence vertical of SAIL, developing critical import substitution products in a joint effort involving R&D establishments of SAIL, Defence and other Government units. These efforts led to successful launching of fully indigenous warships.

He heads SAIL’s Defence & Railways vertical, the Special Steels Group and the division for Trade and Economic Partnerships, apart from other responsibilities.

He has worked closely with industry & Government and is one of the core industry representatives who participate in advocacy on trade related matters on behalf of steel industry.

He has also represented India at international forums.

As a business angel he invested in 8 fast-developing start-ups working in industry, aerospace and energy. Andrey Laptev is the Chairman of the Product Sustainability Committee (PSCO) of the World Steel Association (Worldsteel). Andrey holds BSc (Honours) in Economic Geography from Moscow State University. In 2003 he received Diploma in Economics from University of Cambridge. And in 2004 – MSc (Honours) in Management from London School of economics and political science. Doctor of Business Administration (Cranfield University).

Andrey Sedov

Andrew is an Audit Partner at Deloitte. He leads our Consumer and Industrial Products’ Audit Group as well as the Cross Functional Mining and Metals Group. Andrew has more than twenty years of experience within the CIS practice.

He leads IFRS and RAS audit engagements across various industries (transport, metals, manufacturing and real estate, retail and services, etc.). Andrew actively participated in audits of major Russian companies in the mining and metals sectors, as well as large local and international manufacturing groups. He was also engaged in developing financial and tax accounting methodologies for leading Russian and foreign companies.

In 2008-2011, Andrew also led Deloitte’s Accounting and Audit Methodology center in the Moscow office.

Antti Koulumies

VP - Aluminium,

Antti Koulumies leads Outotec’s Aluminium Business line, which comprises of Outotec’s carbon area and casthouse technologies globally. Previously, Antti worked as Outotec’s head of corporate strategy and controlling, leading Outotec’s strategy development, business controlling, as well as several corporate transformation programmes. Before Outotec, Antti worked at McKinsey and Company as a consultant and senior project manager, working across Europe, South Africa, China and North America.

He holds a Master of Science in technology from Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland (2010) having studied also at EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Antti is based in Cologne, Germany and is a native of Finland.

Ashok Kumar

Born in India in 1953, Kumar has lived in the United States since 1975.  He earned a B.Com degree from University of Delhi and a B.B.A. degree from St. John Fisher College, Rochester, N.Y. in 1976.  In 1980, Kumar saw an opportunity and new business to efficiently recover platinum group metals from the automobile catalytic converters that had only recently been required, and advanced that business as the requirement became worldwide.  Over 35 years he became the world’s largest recycler of salvage automotive converter/catalyst, and a major supplier to the automotive industry of platinum, palladium and rhodium metals. He has also sponsored university research into this field, including a broad study of PGM life cycle stocks and flows, and a focused study of recovery of cerium oxide from auto catalyst.  Kumar at present is the Managing Director of Alliance Industries Limited, and exploring further opportunities in growing Asian markets.

Mr. B.S.Shetty is the General Manager – Commercial at Al Ghurair Iron & Steel LLC (AGIS), Abu Dhabi, UAE and is responsible for the Sales & Marketing, Purchase & Logistics, Finance, HR and IT functions of the company.  He has been involved with the company since its inception in 2006.

Prior to his transfer to AGIS, Mr. Shetty was the General Manager of Trans Gulf Aluminium Industries, Dubai – another Al Ghurair Group company. Mr. Shetty has been in the UAE for over 15 years and has traveled widely for business development.

A Management graduate from India, Mr. Shetty also holds a PG Diploma in Business and Administrative Management. He has over 3 decades of rich & varied experience in the fields of international trading, sales & marketing and General Management and has worked in reputed private sector companies in India like SRF Limited, Grasim Industries & Dalmia Global.

Fisacero is a cold rolling mill that specializes in custom made steel strip for the auto and electronic industries among others. Navy in 1988, serving for 22 years in Special Operations as a Cryptologic Technician.  Deploying on submarines the majority of his career, he led over 28 missions supporting the Global War on Terrorism and other combat military operations.

He retired from the U.S. Navy in 2010 and moved to back to East Texas.  He started working for Priefert as a Purchasing Agent, and progressed to Director of Procurement, General Manager, Vice President of Sales/Priefert Steel, and his current position as Vice President of Supply Chain.

Daniel Riojas

Daniel is the Sales subdirector (Deputy Director) at Altos Hornos de México (AHMSA), the largest integrated Steel making Company in México.

Daniel has served at AHMSA since 1993, and started in AHMSA as Controlling Manager. In 2002 he was appointed as Deputy Director of Logistic and Customer Services, in 2015 he was appointed as Deputy Director of sales in the domestic market for distributors and light profiles companies and in 2018 became Deputy Director of sales for the industrial market. Daniel received a degree in industrial engineering and a master degree in administration from the Tec de Monterrey (ITESM).

Dr. Bhaskar Chatterjee

Between 2004 and 2006, Dr. Chatterjee was the Principal Secretary to the Government of Orissa for Steel and Mines. In that capacity, he was part of the core negotiating team for the single biggest FDI in Indian history – the POSCO Steel Project. He also successfully negotiated and signed MOUs for some of the biggest Steel, Aluminium, and Mining Projects in the country.

He has worked in various assignments related to the energy and power sector – specifically in Industries, Coal, Mining, Steel, and Land issues.

With respect to industries, he worked closely with the Industrial Development Corporation of Orissa in the allocation of power, land and other infrastructure to the various mega industries that were being set up.

With respect to steel and mining, he was primarily responsible not only for the POSCO project but also for negotiating mega projects that were being set up by groups such as JSPL, Jindal Stainless, Vedanta, Arcelor Mittal, Rio Tinto, Tata Steel, Aditya Birla, Monet Ispat, Visa Steel etc.

As Principal Secretary Mining and Chairman of the Orissa Mining Corporation, he was involved with all the mining operations and raw material procurement for the steel industry particularly iron ore. He was fully concerned with all the backward and forward linkages concerned with the steel industry and was part of the team that was consulted during the formulation of the Steel Policy.

Dr. Bhaskar Chatterjee is widely acclaimed as the Father of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in India. He was instrumental in framing and issuing the CSR guidelines for Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs) in April, 2010. Thereafter, he played a major role in the inclusion of Section 135 in the Companies Act of 2013 and in the framing of the rules thereafter.
As the DG & CEO of the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), under the aegis of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India, he spearheaded the National Foundation for Corporate Social Responsibility (NFCSR). Here, Dr. Chatterjee also helped to shape the contours of the subject of Corporate Affairs and prepared strategies for capacity development, knowledge dissemination and quality research.

He has spoken and lectured on the subject of CSR at a very large number of National and International forums over the last five years and is acknowledged as the primary force for bringing a new paradigm to the realm of CSR and providing it with an innovative and strategic vision.

Dr. Chatterjee is also a widely acclaimed management practitioner, theorist and teacher. He has written and lectured over many years on issues of social and sustainable development, corporate responsibility and human resources.

He joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1975 and has held many distinguished positions. In 2008-09, he was Principal Adviser in the Planning Commission. Here he was deeply involved with a number of micro and macro-economic measures. He was also a part of the team responsible for shaping India’s response to the global economic crisis of 2009. Thereafter, he held the position of Secretary to the Govt. of India in the Deptt. of Public Enterprises.

Dr. Chatterjee has most recently authored his latest Book entitled “Sustainable Futures – Imperatives For Managing The Social Agenda”. In this book, Dr. Chatterjee shows how governments, corporates and civil society organizations can synergize their efforts to build a whole new paradigm of development that is sustainable, humanistic and inclusive.

Dr. Thomas Pfatschbacher

Dr. Thomas Pfatschbacher received a master’s degree in technical physics from the Technical University of Linz and his Ph.D. in material science from the University of Leoben and the Technical University Munich. In 1998, he joined voestalpine Stahl as head of product development and expert silicon steel. He then progressed to head of quality management and customer service and expert silicon steel, and finally technical head of silicon steel.

In 2007, he joined vatron GmbH (a joint venture of Siemens VAI and voestalpine Stahl) as business unit manager for mechatronic solutions for steelmaking, casting, rolling and processing.

From 2010 to 2013, he was global vice president and head of mechatronics (steelmaking, casting, rolling, processing, robotics) for Siemens VAI.

In 2013, he became vice president technology and innovation for casting, rolling, ESP, mechatronics and Through Process Optimization for Primetals Technologies.

Since 2019, he has served as senior vice president, digital transformation and smart production for Primetals Technologies.

Appointed on July 6, 2017, Mr. Phillips has a career on Wall Street spanning 30 years during which he has worked on strategic and financing transactions representing over $100 billion in aggregate value. Mr. Phillips was most recently a Senior Advisor with merchant banker Maxit Capital, after leading the mining investment banking teams for Merrill Lynch, Bear Stearns, JPMorgan and Dahlman Rose. Mr. Phillips has worked with numerous mining companies, including many established global leaders, and has dedicated most of the past decade to advising exploration and development-stage companies in achieving their strategic objectives, with a particular focus on obtaining relevance in the United States capital markets. Keitumetse Moumakoe, CEO of the Steel Tube export Association of South Africa (STEASA) has been actively involved in the steel industry for 12 years predominantly in merchanting, having kicked off his career in 2008 when he was recruited by Macsteel Services Centres South Africa as a Manager Trainee. Over the next 9 he would serve the organisation in two critical strategic roles as a subsidiary Branch Manager and at a later stage as Financial Manager of  Macsteel Trading Pipes Fittings and Flanges ensuring the sound financial health of the division.

In August 2017, Keitumetse took up the opportunity of running the Steel Tube Export Association of South Africa and furthering its mandate of identifying and facilitating export opportunities for South African steel tube and pipe manufacturers/exporters with an Africa centric approach as most infrastructure export opportunities are within the African continent. This project was recently ranked by CRU as the lowest operating cost and second lowest capital intensity pellet feed project globally. From 2002 to 2010, Matt worked for the Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC), a subsidiary of Rio Tinto. At IOC he held several progressive roles including Mine General Manager where he turned around this underperforming division to break every historic production record during his tenure.

Born in Broken Hill and with a career in mining spanning over 40 years, 22 years of which with Rio Tinto, Robert can claim a true mining DNA. Robert has consulted at and visited all the major global Iron Ore provinces including Simandou, as well as some of the world’s largest mines including Kalgoorlie Super Pit and Grasberg mine. Robert has also written and presented papers at leading mining conferences around the world and was chair of sessions and presented a paper at the 2019 World Engineers Convention.

Robert has fostered China relationships in Government, Finance and Industry, and has led several delegations to China promoting investment in mining and technologies and is active in assisting Chinese Customs (CIQ) with introducing the latest robotic mineral assaying technologies. After a career of 22 years with Riotinto and then Group General Manager at Snowden Mining Consultants, Robert formed Red River Group in 2012 with a firm vision for trade with China. Robert was AMEC’s Executive Advisor China for 5 years.

Robert is currently a Director of several Australian companies, CEO of Red River Group, Chairman of RemSmart and Director and Chief Operating Officer of Lodestone Mines and Toll Resources Management. He has successfully negotiated several large offtake agreements totally over 15 million tonnes per annum and MoU’s with Chinese Steel Mills, Research Institutes and Engineering Groups.

Robert is Immediate Past Chair of Engineers Australia NCEAT, sits on the National Congress, WA Division Committee and Professional Standards Board. Robert also Chairs ITEE in WA, is an Executive Committee member of Australia China Business Council (ACBC) in WA and is Deputy Chair of the ACBC Resources sub-committee. He joined Tata Steel as a Graduate Trainee in 1992. He worked in various roles in Mines division till he became Chief (Noamundi) in February 2005. He also was associated with special projects like Total Operational Performance (TOP) with McKinsey, Developing IT strategy for Tata Steel with Gartner, Leading an Iron ore task force to evaluate commercial opportunities in Iron ore etc during this stint.

In 2007, post acquisition of Corus by Tata Steel, he was assigned to lead the Global Minerals Resources team formed to explore globally possible raw materials linkage for Corus.

Mr Thomas had a 5-year stint in Ivory Coast, West Africa since 2008, as the Managing Director for of Tata Steel Cote d’lvoire SA, a JV of Tata Steel with State Mining company. He worked to develop Mt Gao Iron ore project from start, involving acquiring the lease, detailed exploration, resource & mine planning and a feasibility study up to port for a possible 24 mtpa project. He also worked as EIC (Western Africa) for exploring other mineral projects in Western and
central African regions especially in Guinea, Liberia, Gabon and Ghana for Tata Steel.

He returned to Tata Steel in June 2013 as General Manager (Operations), FAMD and then moved to lead Iron ore operations of as General Manager (OMQ). He also worked as General Manager, Raw Materials Strategy Group before being transferred as EIC (FAM) in June 2017 till May 20.

Dr. Bhaskar Chatterjee

Between 2004 and 2006, Dr. Chatterjee was the Principal Secretary to the Government of Orissa for Steel and Mines. In that capacity, he was part of the core negotiating team for the single biggest FDI in Indian history – the POSCO Steel Project. He also successfully negotiated and signed MOUs for some of the biggest Steel, Aluminium, and Mining Projects in the country.

He has worked in various assignments related to the energy and power sector – specifically in Industries, Coal, Mining, Steel, and Land issues.

With respect to industries, he worked closely with the Industrial Development Corporation of Orissa in the allocation of power, land and other infrastructure to the various mega industries that were being set up.

With respect to steel and mining, he was primarily responsible not only for the POSCO project but also for negotiating mega projects that were being set up by groups such as JSPL, Jindal Stainless, Vedanta, Arcelor Mittal, Rio Tinto, Tata Steel, Aditya Birla, Monet Ispat, Visa Steel etc.

As Principal Secretary Mining and Chairman of the Orissa Mining Corporation, he was involved with all the mining operations and raw material procurement for the steel industry particularly iron ore. He was fully concerned with all the backward and forward linkages concerned with the steel industry and was part of the team that was consulted during the formulation of the Steel Policy.

Dr. Bhaskar Chatterjee is widely acclaimed as the Father of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in India. He was instrumental in framing and issuing the CSR guidelines for Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs) in April, 2010. Thereafter, he played a major role in the inclusion of Section 135 in the Companies Act of 2013 and in the framing of the rules thereafter.
As the DG & CEO of the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), under the aegis of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India, he spearheaded the National Foundation for Corporate Social Responsibility (NFCSR). Here, Dr. Chatterjee also helped to shape the contours of the subject of Corporate Affairs and prepared strategies for capacity development, knowledge dissemination and quality research.

He has spoken and lectured on the subject of CSR at a very large number of National and International forums over the last five years and is acknowledged as the primary force for bringing a new paradigm to the realm of CSR and providing it with an innovative and strategic vision.

Dr. Chatterjee is also a widely acclaimed management practitioner, theorist and teacher. He has written and lectured over many years on issues of social and sustainable development, corporate responsibility and human resources.

He joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1975 and has held many distinguished positions. In 2008-09, he was Principal Adviser in the Planning Commission. Here he was deeply involved with a number of micro and macro-economic measures. He was also a part of the team responsible for shaping India’s response to the global economic crisis of 2009. Thereafter, he held the position of Secretary to the Govt. of India in the Deptt. of Public Enterprises.

Dr. Chatterjee has most recently authored his latest Book entitled “Sustainable Futures – Imperatives For Managing The Social Agenda”.
